He married Sarah Scolick January 1, 1765. Her body was interred October 24, 1767 in Barton, Westmorland Co, England.

Occupation: occupation unknown in Yoeman. He was christened in Barton, Westmorland Co, England, April 16, 1737. John's will was probated in Will at Penrith, see ext text., June 15, 1815. Mrs. Howells: The will of John Boak 4 who died in 1815 shows how Yanwath Hall passes to the BROWN family via his son-in-law, THOMAS BROWN. (John Boak 4 had moved to Yanwath Hall probably some time after his father, Joseph 1, died in 1780. It will be recalled that John 4, as Joseph 1's eldest son, was the executor of his father's estate. It would be a good guess then, that this was the reason he moved to Yanwath Hall.) John Boak 4 and his wife, Sarah, had resided at Moor End, Barton, which is near Winder Hall, the family home of the BROWNS. John's daughter, Sarah, his sole heir in 1815 as his son died shortly after birth in 1767 as did Sarah, his wife. John did not remarry. The four grandaughters are left considerable sums of money in the will indicating that John BOAK and the Boak family in general were a successful family,. or, as will be noted later herein, John at least thought he was. John Boak 4's will was drawn on 22 Jan 1814. Four men were appointed as Trustees for what must have been a considerable estate: "Two freehold closes or enclosures called Weldbanks (?) and Highmoor Field...all farming stock consisting of horses, cattle, sheep, and all others of what kind or nature whatsoever, and also all my husbanding gear and hay and corn produced from my farm at Yanwath Hall......all my freehold property situate and being Pooley in the said Parish of Barton...". His specific bequests are interesting in that he names some grand- children, but not all who appear in the baptismal record, but makes bequest to several "grandchildren" who do not show in the record. record. Ten grandchildren are noted in the baptismal records and six receive bequests: William Brown (50 pounds), Jacob (100 pounds), Joseph (90), Hannah (120), Louisa (120), Jane (120) ..."to be paid to such of said grandchildren as have attained their ages of 21 years as soon as the distribution thereof can be made from the money arising from the sale of the property..." It goes on to say that if they are in their minority their bequests will be held until they are 21. Then he talks of any surplus abd that it should be divided among his grand daughters equally. Among all those who have specific bequests the oldest at the time of John 4's death was William who was 20. Jane the youngest was only 5! The most interesting part of the whole thing is that the trustees submitted their inventory of John's estate on 15 June 1815, three months after his burial and it stated that his estate was under 800 pounds. It would appear that maybe John had delusions of grandeur. As to personal effects he detailed their disposal in the will in great detail even to the "best feather bed and bedding" to one pers- son and then "the next best feather bed and bedding" to some one else, and so on.
