April 5 – British Airways – Barcelona to London to Logan

We made it back. By the time we got to the airport, the wonderful VeriFly app had still not figured out how to get our CDC certifications to travel through. We took a taxi to the airport in plenty of time and the BA checkin person was able to lead us through a different way of US certification, allowing us to finally check in and check the bags. She was nice enough to check our carry-on also, so that helped. So we went down to through security and immigration and waited for our flight, which left at 1 PM. Since the UK is no longer in the EU, immigration was done in Spain.

We had a smooth flight over to Heathrow, and the went through security again. They made sure the 74 year old man was thoroughly patted down and went without shoes. That left us in Heathrow about 3 hours before our 5 PM flight. There is no one to tell you where you gate is and the signage says “will post gate information at 15:50” We looked at other planes going to the states and decided to go to the B concourse. As we got to that train, there was a hint that we should go to C. We went to C and eventually found our flight and our flying companions.

The plane was a Boeing 777. I haven’t been on one of those since I retired. It was not a full flight, so we had a row of three seats and mine didn’t have a seat in front of it. Quite relaxing. We read and watched video and really didn’t sleep much. We got to Logan airport around 7:30 pm and got through immigration and baggage pickup. Our limo driver was waiting and six of us loaded into it for the trip back to Kennebunk and Kennebunkport. We collapsed and made it to 6 am this morning, which is pretty good. Our greeters are happy we are back.
