Aurora drive 1/31 into 2/1
For the second time, we drove up to Kidafell, about a half hour drive north and east of Reykjavik and could already see the aurora out the windows. I backed the car off the road, across from a field and disturbed a herd of beautiful Icelandic ponies. The disappeared after the car lights went away so I didn’t get a picture of them.
At this point, I pulled out my tripod and put my Nikon CoolPix P90 atop it. Then using the manual setting, ISO 1600, and 8 seconds as the exposure, I took a bunch of shots. We were excitedly looking at the camera each time it finished. I was glad to have downloaded the user manual and preset it up this way. I had no idea I could set the ISO on the camera. I also learned that if you are taking a long exposure manual shot, that you do not need the self-timer to avoid jiggle, as the camera waits a second or two before starting the long exposure. Without further techie ado, here are the shots. If there is another good night while we are here, we will take some more.
