Friday and Saturday – 3-4 Feb – Last full days

Friday we stayed in Reykjavik. We started at the Settlement Exhibition which is an actual site of a ninth century house. It was a very interesting exhibit. We learned much about the early life and explorations. Senior discount made the cost zero; can’t beat that. After that we returned to some of the shops we visited earlier and got a bit more Icelandic crafts. Then we went out for dinner at Sjávargrillið, a wonderful fish restaurant. Even finished off the dinner with grappa.

Saturday was a sunny day and we drove up to the Snæfellsjökull Peninsula. Our first stop was our usual aurora viewing spot in the day. The views are fabulous and we got to see the horses we saw the first night.

We then drove through a 6km tunnel under a fjord and proceeded to Borgames for lunch at another Settlement Center.  We were then on an incredibly scenic peninsula. We drove up to Stykkishólmur. It is a little fishing village. Not much was open so we returned to the apartment but wow the scenery was amazing.

The next set show fields covered with volcanic waste, as well as lovely mountains.

Finished the day off with a lovely fish dinner at Harry’s in Reykjavík.  We fly back tomorrow.
