July 8 – Bog People, Vermeer and the Concert
We had breakfast in the morning and were driven back into Dublin. We went to the National Gallery and saw an interesting exhibit of Dutch Masters, concentrating on Vermeer and his contemporaries. After that we went to the National Museum of Archaeology, where they had an interesting exhibit of “Bog People” who were sacrificed or murdered and left to rot in the bogs. The displays showed the ones in Ireland as well as elsewhere in Europe. After that we walked to the Dublin Castle, and looked around the courtyard, but given our time constraints, we elected to go to lunch/dinner at the Copper Alley Bistro, where Susan’s sandwich was quite impressive. We then walked back to our drop off point and boarded the bus to get back to the hotel.
We relaxed in the room for a little while and then got showered and dressed for the concert.
Back at Christ Church Cathedral, we lined up and had a dress rehearsal and the performance itself. It was an amazing experience for us as singers, and everyone in the audience was impressed also. We went back to the hotel and packed suitcases for an early bus to the airport.
