Start of Vacation – Thursday, September 14, 2018

We started the day getting haircuts and doing various errands, including taking Lila to her vet appointment.  Once everything was safely in the car, we got ready to leave.  We told Linda that we would be gone before 5:30 and she would come at that time.  Susan misunderstood that we should leave at 5:30 to get to the bus in Portsmouth for the 6 PM bus.  We got off at 5:25 and I was a bit panicked.  With some significant speeding on I-95, we got there in time to have them hold the bus while they valet parked the car.

After this beginning, the bus ride worked fine and we got through security and waited for our Icelandair flight to Keflavik. Flight left on time but about an hour past Newfoundland, the plane turned around.  A medical emergency required getting to the nearest hospital, which was back in Newfoundland.  By the time we turned around and got to Keflavik, our connecting flight to Bergen had left.  After waiting in the wrong line, thinking we were in customer service, and waiting in another line, we were given tickets from Keflavik to Oslo and then Oslo to Bergen.  We arrived in Bergen and got to our hotel around 7:30 PM.  We got our room, changed clothes and went to a Norwegian tapa restaurant, Bare Vestland.  (BTW Bare is Norwegian for “bar”). Interesting food.  Got to bed around 10 PM European time,
