September 21 – Oslo – Day 2 – Vigelund & Munch
Today we took two shore excursions. The first was a scenic trip around Oslo including a walk around Vigelund Park to see all of the remarkable sculptures. The final part of that trip was going up to the ski jump. Unfortunately it was completely fogged in. We lucked in that the walk in the park was before the big rains. Very interesting sculptures. Here is the most notable – “Angry Boy”
Here are more of the statues and other sights in Vigelund Park. Interestingly the only clothed statue in the park was of the sculptor.
The afternoon trip was to the Munch Museum. We had a very knowledgeable tour guide at the museum who led us through the main exhibits chronologically with detailed descriptions of each. After that, we were shown where they do the restorations of items from their collection, as well as lithographic slabs (used in creation of the actual lithograph) as well as etchings and wood cuts.
After that we had some discussions over coffee and cheesecake (note the “Scream” chocolate)
The bulk of the day was rainy, although the sun just came out as we are back on the ship. Only a few miles of walking today, unlike our prior average of 5 miles with a high of 7.
