16 to 17 May Flight to Moscow
Our cruise is titled “Waterway of the Czars”.
We started the cruise by taking a car service ride to Logan Airport in Boston. We were traveling with Alice and Bert Ferran, so we were able to split the costs. Our Lufthansa flight left around 5 PM and got to Frankfort at 6 am. The flight to Moscow left at 8 am and got in to the Moscow airport around noon. We now were 7 hours ahead of Eastern time.
We went through the immigration section and not surprisingly, the agents did not smile while eventually stamping our passports. We were met by representatives of Viking and were sent off in an SUV for a two hour trip in heavy traffic to the place where the boat was docked. The traffic looked just like in the US, except that there were also French cars additionally.
We arrived at the boat finally and went to our stateroom and then went to lunch in the restaurant. After lunch, we unpacked and relaxed. The boat, Viking Trevor, was docked in a beautiful park, so we went for a walk, to enjoy the leafed-out trees, tulips and lilacs (unlike the climate we had left in Maine. During the walk, we did finally see a Russian-made car, a Kruschev-era GAZ-M21 Volga.
After our walk, we went to a briefing in the Sky Bar and then back to the restaurant for dinner. After that, we went to bed.
