SSM to Nipigon – Around Lake Superior – 10/7/16
We stayed in the Howard Johnson Hotel in Sault Ste Marie had breakfast in the hotel, loaded up and headed out. The hotel was very old and in need of a major renovation, but a nice couple and their extended family were running it and there were signs that they had started. The biggest problem was that the dog-friendly room was on the second floor, so there was a lot of hauling up and down. A motel-type place like we had in Pembroke, was much better.
The day was pretty cloudy with off and on rain, so not many pictures. We did stop in Lake Superior Provincial Park briefly and the lake was pretty angry!
We continued north and then west to the top of the lake to Nipigon. This is where the roads from Western Canada to Eastern Canada come together to a single bridge. Last winter the new bridge was closed for a while and traffic had to detour through the US. A second span is being built.
The weather had improved a bit and we went out to dinner at the Edgeview Restaurant, a Trip Advisor top pick. Delicious prime rib dinner. after dinner the weather was a bit better and I was able to take a picture of some of the islands at the top of the lake.
