Thursday 13 Feb – Barcelona
Today we lounged around in the apartment and went down around 11 for breakfast at the bakery downstairs. We then did a wander around the town and eventually took a cab up to Montjuic to visit the Joan Miró gallery. Very interesting. He seemed to go from a post impressionist through a bunch of styles which increasingly seemed to be nonsensical (but that is just me probably). He eventually, in old age, started deliberately trying to goad the critics, with canvases that he burned holes in and stuff. He did have a very interesting tapestry.
It was 60 degrees and sunny, so we walked around and ultimately stopped for lunch at El Xalet de Montjuic which had great food and an incredible view. We got there just before 4, since they close for lunch at that point. From there we could see Sagrada Familia

We had paella with chicken and mushrooms along with a lovely wine from El Bierzo. We then walked around a bit more and took a taxi back to the apartment. We may go out for dinner tonight, but not sure yet. The Catalan Language is sort of Franish, a cross between French and Spanish, with a trace of Basque. The X is pronounced CH, so our restaurant today the Xalet, was really Chalet, and of course you can get xurros for dessert at some restaurants.
Tomorrow we have a guided tour of Parc Güell in the morning and the Picasso Museum in the afternoon. More after that.
