3-November – Walk along Seine to Sainte-Chapelle and Notre Dame

We actually managed to sleep this morning, so we appear to have conquered 5 hours of jet lag. After breakfast, we headed across the street to walk along the Seine. We walk slowly, just as we did on the Camino 8 years ago, but we do get places.

I will stack the pictures on the end of this. The day was partly cloudy but very nice. Temps in the 50’s. We saw the Louvre across the river (We will visit it with Viking next week). The Louvre has an ad for the iPhone 13pro on the side.

The biggest problem for me was that walking along the Left Bank, immediately reminded me of “Walk Away Renee” from the 1960’s, so it was running through my head.

We got to the Île de la Cité, home of Saint-Chapelle, Notre Dame, and several hundred armed French police. We found that you needed to buy a ticket for the Cathedral, and went over to the Right Bank to see if we could find anything. Finally I figured out how to pay for the tour on my phone and we went through security and then also had to show our Vaccine Passports.

The Cathedral is magnificent. It was a favorite spot for my parents. The stained glass is gorgeous and it has recently been restored and protected from the elements. After leaving that we went as close as you can get to Notre Dame. It is now two years since the fire and you can see all of the scaffolding holding it up.

We then had a quick lunch and walked back to the apartment on the Quai d’Orsay. As you cross the street to our apartment, you can see the Eiffel Tower sticking up behind it.

We are going to eat in tonight and relax.
