Monday, 8 November – Menagerie and le Train Blue Restaurant

8 miles of walking today again. We walked along the Seine and as we came back up to street level, the clock on the Musée d’Orsay reminded us of “The Invention of Hugo Cabret” book and movie. Actually, I think the Museum may have once been a train station. Here is the clock

We then continued down at street level. Around Notre Dame, I heard “Tom…Tom” and eventually turned around to see Mark Rose, my supervisor at Raytheon Bedford several years ago, whom I had last seen at my retirement party in 2009. Foolishly, I forgot to take a picture.

We continued to the Zoo, and first saw colorful African pig

Vicuña

Tapir

Ibex

And a gorgeous snow leopard

And a really neat small cat.

After leaving the zoo, we caught a taxi to Gare de Lyon (train station) and after some trouble finding the restaurant, went into Le Train Blue. A high end, delicious restaurant recommended by Larry Simmons (Thank you Larry). It was huge and not quite the small French cafe vibe of L’Ami Jean, but the food was something. Here is the first course

We spent nearly two hours until we finished our Baba Rum. We then found our way down to the Seine and walked back along the Left Bank until we got to the apartment.

Interesting Apple Watch problem. Susan got >200% of her Exercise Goal, while I only got about 30%. She has only a few times gone up to 100%. I don’t know if the Apple software has an age threshold so that if you are 75, your exercise counts for more. Who knows!

Tomorrow we pack up the room and take a taxi down to the Port de Grenelle to meet the Viking Radgrid.
