Third Generation

He married Hannah Pearson in Wesleyan Church, Appleby, England, March 1853. Hannah was born in Colby, Westmoreland, England BET. 1827-1828. Hannah was the daughter of Thomas Pearson and Hannah. Hannah died July 2, 1870 in Ballarat, Australia. Her body was interred July 5, 1870 in Ballarat, Australia.

John immigrated, BET. 1856-1857. Destination: destination unknown. Occupation: occupation unknown in Miller. He was christened in Kirkland, Cumberland Co, England, October 8, 1826. John Boak emigrated to Australia about the time of the gold rush there in 1856. He went to Ballarat a city north of Melbourne which was the center of the activity. He married and had a family which we know from correspondence he had with Thomas, his brother, in the late 70s and early 80s concerning his inheritance, or alleged inheritance. This is covered in my report which summarized the correspondence which I received from my aunt. (See Thomas Boak 4 sheet for further discussion.) I do know from her too that John W. Boak's family used to correspond with cousins in Australia. (John 8 was John W's uncle.) When I was in Australia on business at one time, I found there were many "Boaks" in the phone directories in Geelong and in Ballarat. Notes from Miles Boak: Ships log on which John Boak and family come to Australia in 1857. Again some of it is unclear in script writing of that time: That the ships name was the "David McIvor sailed from Liverpool on 25 December 1856 and arrived at Geelong 7th April 1857" Passenger List " 6. Boak John, Laborer from Cumberland then his religious denomination is indicated as Wesleyan, education that he can read and write, marriage date as 30 and by whom engaged Simon Fraser who was a big landowner in western Victoria but it would appear they went to the goldfields instead. 7. Boak Anna, Cumberland, Wesleyan, read and write, 29 8. Boak John, Cumberland Wesleyan Age 1"
