15. Leighton Alli⁶ Soule (George F.⁵, Robert⁴, Jonathan³, Rowland², George¹) was born July 18, 1877.

He married Berdessa Louella Sampson in Ellery Twp, Chautauqua Co, NY, July 28, 1907. Berdessa was born in Ellery Twp, Chautauqua Co, NY September 18, 1889. Berdessa was the daughter of Alexander Frederic Sampson and Lillian Josephine Akin. Berdessa died June 30, 1970 in Napoli, Cattaraugus Co, NY, at 80 years of age.

Leighton Alli Soule and Berdessa Louella Sampson had the following children:

18 i. Edith Ruth⁷ Soule was born in Fluvanna, Chautauqua Co, NY June 29, 1908. Edith died December 20, 1970 in California, at 62 years of age. Her body was interred July 1, 1971 in Fluvanna, Chautauqua Co., NY. Edith participated in the College graduation event ABT. 15 JUN 1929 in Geneseo, NY. Occupation: occupation unknown in Teacher. Edith also went on to gain additional degrees and skills in teaching at Columbia University. See biographical text. Edith Soule's ashes were interred in the Sampson family plot without a marker to note the exact location. Edith Soule was a grand person and one of our few cousins. She was an extremely competent teacher who graduated from Geneseo State Normal School in the twenties during the time we lived in Seneca Falls, NY. She later taught in the Geneva, NY schools (about ten miles from SF) and we saw quite a lot of her during this period. During the summers she took courses at Columbia for advanced degrees amd eventually taught at the prestigious Horace Mann School in New York City. After a time she met and married Charles Baker. He was given a job at Winchesters by my father at which he was only marginally successful. Edith in the meantime had a teaching job in the New Haven, Ct. system. At some point they went to the western part of the U. S. where he continued to seek education and Edith supported him. They adopted a child in Denver (November 15, 1945) and named him Brian Mansfield Baker. I recall that he was killed in an accident while still a young man. I think too that they adopted a second boy.
