The boat, Viking Astrild, left Dresden early and arrived in Meissen around 8:30. We left for a tour of the Meissen Porcelain facility. The process is completely by hand. They have over 600 employees now, having had more in the past, including during the Communist era.
Dresden was totally destroyed early in 1945. Since then the Russians, East Germans and unified Germans have restored almost everything to its glory. We loaded into busses for a trip to the Elbe Sandstone National Park. There are many interesting spires and we walked among them on a stone bridge and on the site of an old fort built atop the spires.
We started the day with breakfast in the Palace Art Nouveau hotel where we were staying and then packed up all of our stuff and put the bags which were to be transported in the hall. That had to be done by 10 am. Then we had a long time for walking around Prague on Continue Reading
Once we made to Prague, we checked in to the hotel and joined a tour of the Prague Castle and the Lobkovitz Palace. It was rainy and cold and outdoors for the first part. However the Pslace tour which included lunch was fascinating.
Day 1 – Thursday/Friday We left the house around 4 PM for an 8:10 plane on Lufthansa. We were not aware of the Lufthansa strike which was in progress in Europe.
