50th Anniversary trip to Kauai – through Mon, 10/3
On Thursday the 29th, Susan and I travelled to Kauai on Hawaiian Air from Boston to Honolulu (very long flight) and then a short hop over to Lihue, Kauai. We drove to Poipu and got into the Aloha House. We rented it for a week starting on Saturday when the troops arrived. For the first two nights, we stayed in the cottage, where Abby and the kids will stay. Honolulu from the plane..Kauai as we landed..Cottage..Aloha House.
On Friday, we relaxed and went to Costco and went to Art Night at Hanapepe.
On Saturday, while the family was moving across the US and changing planes in Seattle, LAX and Honolulu, we did more food shopping at Safeway, and around 5 PM, I drove to the airport to pick up Anna, Ed and Rob. Geoff arrived an hour later, and since Abby, Kaan, Danny and Zane were getting in at 7 PM, I drove to the airport and picked them up.
On Saturday morning we relaxed at the house and folks took an early morning walk toward the water. Including the first beach run featuring a sea turtle.
In the afternoon, Kaan, Susan and I drove Kaan to the airport and then stopped again at Safeway for even more food. Later we relaxed around the Aloha House.
On Sunday, we went to Salt Pond Beach. It is a lovely beach with reef around it to minimize the waves. It is fairly isolated and thus not crowded. On the way there was a scenic turnout..
After the beach, we stopped in Hanapepe for lunch at the Japanese Grandma’s Cafe. Monday was topped off with a trip to a nearby sea wall to view the sunset. Ed brought his tripod with him.
