50th Anniversary trip to Kauai – 10/4 and 10/5

Tuesday, October 4 is Susan’s birthday and we celebrated it in the evening. In the morning, people walked down to the Baby Beach. Susan and I went back to Lihue for some groceries (12 people is a large number of mouths). The kids (48 and under) went to the Poipu Beach Athletic Club, which has a big pool with water slides and stuff and had a great time.

In the late afternoon, the kids gave their birthday presents to Nana/Mom, sang the necessary song, and then we had a delightful dinner topped off with a pineapple upside down cake.

Wednesday, October 5, was our day to visit the Waimea Canyon. This is the “if you are on Kauai, you must do this” time. We compressed to two cars, a 7 passenger and 5 passenger and proceeded to Waimea, where Susan and I had stayed during many of our previous trips. We proceeded up and stopped at several of the scenic stops, including a lunch stop. We ended up at a place where you can view the NaPali coast. Spectacular. We are relaxing after the drive and had dinner of pork butts, which had been cooking in a crock pot while we were driving.
