Day 4, Tuesday, April 18, Invergordon, Scotland
Our first day in the Highlands was great. We went to a “Hunting Lodge” which was used in the past for the gentry from London or Edinburgh to shoot little animals. We drove for quite a while, through Inverness, the capital of this part of the Highlands, and then stopped for a rest break in Carrbridge, which is a town which was famous for the bridge separating the town.
After this we completed our drive to Rothemurchus Estate, where we started by having tea and having a walk around the main house.
After that we went for a long bus ride around the estate and in the process saw their magnificent Highland cattle and were able to feed the red deer.
When the bus returned to the house, we had a lovely lunch of beef stew, turnip curry, and non-alcoholic elderberry and elderflower wines. We then drove back to the ship. After that huge a lunch, we went to a lecture on Highland dress, told by a gentleman in a kilt, and a discussion on the three countries of the UK on the same island, England, Wales and Scotland. We will discuss Northern Ireland at a later date. We capped it off by a dinner at 8:30.
