5 Feb – IKEA, Flight back and Super Bowl LI
We got up in the morning, had breakfast, packed and cleaned up the apartment. We were out by 11. We went to the Icelandic Art Museum, a particularly weird place. One room had videos of a woman on a treadmill, coupled with piles of salt and other objects. Not sure what it meant. There was a neat item called 5 Boxes which had a movie of the boxes transforming layers on them, which ended up looking like a 3D movie without special glasses. Finally there was a Yoko Ono exhibition which featured letters from women who were abused as well as maps of the world rubber stamped with “Imagine Peace” all over. The coffee and tea in the museum was good and we relaxed for a while.
We then drove to the IKEA store on the way to the airport. It was filled with Icelandic families having a Sunday out. The Swedish meatballs were wonderful and actually reasonably priced. The store had absolutely no English language signs. Luckily the exit signs helped us find the way out. Guess what we noticed across the road!
We then went to the rental car place and were driven to the airport. The flight was around five hours, as was the jet lag, so our plane left around 5:15 and arrived around 5:15. We caught the 6:10 bus from Logan to Portsmouth. The bus was full so I managed to sit next to a person who had the NFL app on his phone so we could watch the first disastrous quarter. We got back early in the second half, so we managed to successfully miss Lady Gaga, and watch the incredible comeback.
